A couple of years ago my daughter went through a phase of being obsessed with patterns. I’m pretty sure I went through the same phase myself (although mine never really ended!). She made this lovely grid with loads of different patterns and she spent hours on it. Most of the inspiration came from YouTube although once she got into the swing of it she started to make up her own ideas. Click here for an example of the tutorials she used.
Such a simple yet satisfying way to pass the time and lots of learning involved, both in terms of mark making and mathematically, All you need is a black pen (sharpies are good), paper and, if you’re feeling fancy, a ruler!
